How I escaped Death by the Whiskers or Is It Divine Intervention?.

I am popularly called Mama Idayatu. Idayatu is the name of my first daughter. My real name is Madam Abeni Jimoh.I am a 55 year old widow. I live at Ibadan in the south west of Nigeria. I have six grown up children - three females and three males. My late husband Alhaji Raufu Jimoh died about ten years ago.

My late mother popularly called Iya Alakara but whose real name was Madam Abebi Jinadu was married to the polygamous family of Alhaji Aremu Jinadu. My father had two wives.Madam Agbeke was the senior wife while my mother was the junior wife. Each of the wives had four children in which I am one.Even with the sustained efforts by my father Alhaji Arermu Jinadu to maintain peace in his household. strife and enmity were the order of the day between the two wives that's between my mother and her arch rival Madam Agbeke the senior wife.

Preparation of meals for the family was done on weekly rotational basis. The even I am
now about to narrate is very true.It happened to me during the week my step mother was
in charge of preparing meals for the family.I had a step sister Silifat. We were of the same age group. We were each 8years old and in the sane class - Primary 2 at the same Government Primary School. This unfortunate incident took place on a Friday he day for the Muslim Jumat Prayer. So our parents were away from the house to go and pray at the mosque in the afternoon.

Before my step mother left for the mosque. she left a plate of food each for me and my step sister with an instruction that her daughter should take the food in a particular plate while I should take the food in the other plate. The instruction we must carry out.As fate would have it that date I had to get home a few meters ahead of my step sister. I had to go to the toilet
where I had to spend considerable time in the toilet.

Meanwhile when I was in the toilet, my step sister Silifat had taken my own plate of food and ate it contrary to the instruction of her mother. I knew there would be a very serious problem on the return of my step mother. She would not take kindly to her instruction being flouted NOT
knowing that a very sad event was soon to be unfolded.

A few minutes after Silifat hed eaten my very own plate of food, she started complaining of stomach ache. Suddenly she was holding her stomach and rolling on the ground. Since the initial first aid treament applied failed, Silifat was rushed to the nearby hospital where she eventually died and was buried in the family compound. The trauma of seeing her daughter's grave every morning was too much for my step mother that she had to pack out of

How To Achieve A Mother Earth Friendly Home Buildings.

Green home building provides us with an opportunity to save mother Earth and one of the ways is to have Earth Friendly Homes or Natural Buildings.Green home building where the normal man-made constructional materials give way to eco-friendly and natural materials are put to use. The complete absence of or relevance of heavy constructional and high transport cost home building products.A policy of delibrate practice of not using those materials that will
further add to enviromental pollution, depredation or those that are not very relevant
to the construction.
.
The Green home building utilises very reduced square footage of land to the barest minimum. Sustainable construction materials are deliberately left out. Alternative resources such as solar panels, natural insulation to minimize the energy requirement and working with environment come to play.Artificial synthetic materials may be additional alternative construction materials
for Green home building.

For Green home building, Straw stands out probably as the most ideal of wide array of items and techniques used in Green home building.Straw home buildings are the most popular.Straw is not only renewable but a very fantastic insulator. It is a very cheap material costing far less than the
traditional construction materials. For an example Strawable homes use about 15% less wood compared to the wood requirement for normal home construction. The concept of Strawable home building is becoming so popular in the Southwestern United States that many Banks are now prepared to give loans for the project.

There are many other renewable resouces which are used in addition to Straw. The Cob technique is a combination of both earth and straw with a high concentration of long Straw
fibers. Even though it is very labour intensive because of its hand applied application principle. However it is green home building method that is of low-cost and low impact.Adobe homes is a combination of moistened dirt and straw or any other natural materials dried to the desired shapes. Rammed earth peovides another form of Green home building where clay and
straw are conbined. The materials need to be tamped with heavy machinery.

Green home buildig using Poured earth has an imput of materials similar to concrete. The same principle of concrete mixture is applied. It even uses Portland cement as a binding agent. Poured earth is devoid of sand and gravel aggregate used in concrete. Instead soil is used resulting in a medium concrete.Even though Pour earth construction is as high as 20%. This is
due to labour process involved.Poured earth is very easy to maintain. It has a very high resistance to the elements and virtualy a non-existent building maintenance.

Earthbags, or sandbags, are another popular material used for green home building. They are inexpensive and can be readily and quickly constructed. Homes built from earth bags are resistant to severe weather and offer
superior strength and durability.

Cordwood building technique provides the opportunity for the use of wood that might otherwise not be ideal for normal home building construction. It futures short pieces of wood of the size of firewood. The whole process is similar to laying bricks and mortars with Cornwood pieces functioning as bricks. This technique is gaining popularity as an inexpensive building of natural beauty.

The uses of materials such as lightweight concrete, stone, bamboo by Natural builders provide the opportunity for the production of beautiful and functional homes devoid of the environmental stress and the conservation of precious energy both in the short and long term.
